English Country Cottage Sets
Following the adoption of the "Country Cottages" name for marketing purposes, a number of different sets were produced, each consisting of three different models from the Numbered Series. Initially four different sets were available, referred to as Sets A to D, but this was later extended to include a further two sets. The front of the packaging carries the title "English Country Cottages".
The full set is shown below.
The photo below shows the back of the packaging when the range was limited to four sets (A to D).
The next photo shows the back of the packaging when the range was extended to six sets (A to F).
The bottom panel of the set of six models also changed to incorporate an illustration of the numbered series up to number 41, plus the Felsham Church model. This panel is plain on the earlier set of 4 packaging.
The top face on both sets of packaging carries a description of the range, as shown below.
Both ends of the boxes carry the address of the pottery.
All the examples I have seen show the later address for The Granary in Thurston, rather than the earlier Felsham address. |

Country Cottages Set A
Country Cottages Set A consists of the following models from the Numbered Series:
- Thatched Yeoman's Cottage (Number 2)
- Thatched merchants' house with decorated ridge (Number 19)
- "Grannie's Cottage" (Number 5)
Although part of the original set of 4 (A to D), this example dates to the later period when 6 sets were available.
Country Cottages Set B
Country Cottages Set B consists of the following models from the Numbered Series:
- Merchants' house (Number 6)
- House "For Sale" (Number 7)
- Large timbered house with two chimneys (Number 13)
This example dates to the early period when the set was limited to 4 groups (A to D).
Country Cottages Set C
Country Cottages Set C consists of the following models from the Numbered Series:
- The Doctor's House. Illustrates the Dutch influence in Suffolk (Number 14)
- A row of cottages. Two Up, two down (Number 22)
- Victorian village school (Number 28)
Although part of the original set of 4 (A to D), this example dates to the later period when 6 sets were available.
Country Cottages Set D
Country Cottages Set D consists of the following models from the Numbered Series:
- Thatched cottage with bedroom under roof (Number 4)
- Weaver's house with dormer windows (Number 9)
- Green King "Pub" Brewers of the finest ales (Number 33)
This example dates to the early period when the set was limited to 4 groups (A to D).
Country Cottages Set E
Country Cottages Set E consists of the following models from the Numbered Series:
- Stone built West Country town house (Number 31)
- West country weaver's house with topiary bush (Number 30)
- Cotswold Post Office (Number 40)
