The Bull Hotel, Long Melford
Presentation Models
This model of The Bull Hotel, Long Melford, Suffolk produced by Mudlen End Studio is a large presentation model and is one of two distinct versions of this model.
The Bull Hotel, Long Melford is located at the northern end of the long high street in Long Melford, Suffolk. The Bull Hotel is an attractive half-timbered Tudor style coaching inn, which dates back to the 15th century. Apparently it was built for a wealthy wool merchant in 1450, but by 1580 it had become The Bull.
I used to pass the Bull Hotel every day on my way to and from school and recognised the model as soon as I saw it because of the distinctive profile. The photograph below of the actual hotel was taken in November 2013.
This first example is mounted on a plinth and is therefore of a similar format to many of the other larger hotel models produced by Mudlen End such as The Swan, Lavenham.
This example of the model has some damage to the main chimney at one end (most obvious in the photo from the rear), The central chimney is also damaged with the top section missing altogether, and looks as if this happened when it was made as the break has been coloured to match the roof.
In common with a number of other large models produced by Mudlen End Studio, this one has no markings on the underside.
The group of 4 smaller pictures in the grid below show other shots of this example of the Bull Hotel made by Mudlen End Studio. Note that this model is signed by Hart - one of only two models that I have that carries his name, the other being the Kings Head, Chigwell.

The second example is an unmounted model (no plinth) and is therefore more akin to some of the larger models produced by Mudlen End such as Chigwell Cottages.
The group of 4 smaller pictures in the grid below show other shots of this example of the Bull Hotel made by Mudlen End Studio. This unmounted model has the standard Mudlen End backstamp on the underside.
