Description

The No 3 Ensign Carbine is a standard folding camera, designated the No 3 as it is leather covered. A frame finder is fitted to the lens standard with a rear sight that slides out from the camera back. It also has a conventional reflecting viewfinder.

The camera has a three position focus lock. The camera serial number is marked on the inner edge of the focus scale (F14415).

The baseboard is metal and finished on the inside in black crackle effect. The camera back is embossed with the makers name.

The camera has a cover over the red window, which can be swung away when winding the film, and carries patent number 280352 (dating to 1926). This relates to the pressure plate that is raised into position when the cover over the red window is closed.

Notes

This camera formed the basis of several other cameras such as the Dollond Owl No 3, and the Super May Fair premium camera.
