Description

This first example of the the Goerz Ango strut camera is fitted with a Dagor lens, mounted in a fixing with a Radial focus. The lens cap is still in place, although attachment string has broken. The lens is mounted on a narrow metal plate that can move vertically (rising front), and that in turn is fixed to a wooden panel that can move horizontally (cross front).

The relatively complex controls for the focal plane shutter are sited on the right hand side of the camera (viewed from the back). The left hand side has a sprung handle. The top face has a Newton finder, with cross hairs marked on the large front lens and a round tinted lens on the rear site. This is the later pattern finder introduced in 1906. Also on the top face is a chart that shows the shutter settings.

The camera is equipped with a ground glass screen, with a fold-out viewing hood.

Description

This second example of the Goerz Ango strut camera is very similar to the first example. The pleated bellows in fair condition, with no obvious splits or holes but showing surface wear on edges of pleats. The focal plane shutter is operational, having been restored for use by the previous owner, who replaced the focal plane shutter blind. The original is still in the case.

The ground glass screen is intact with fold out viewing hood. A Newton finder is also fitted (cross hairs to large front lens and round tinted lens on the rear site). This is the later pattern of finder that was introduced in 1906.

The camera came with its original leather case, which is velvet lined, and is complete with four black aluminium faced DDS.

Notes

The date of both examples is based upon data given in McKeown [1].
